Networking as a Wedding Photographer - The Gorge Bakehouse.

Hey everyone! It’s been a minute since the last blog, but today I want to share with you (for both suppliers and couples), why I love to network with other vendors as a wedding photographer. Either through meeting other vendors at wedding fairs, or at weddings themselves, it is always so cool to see how others work and chat about how they are getting on. For someone relatively new to the industry you can always pick up tips and as a photographer, by taking photos of their work and sharing it with the vendors, it is a great way to keep them connections. It might also be the case that a wedding vendor might have a situation whereby they have a client that is still looking to finalise their wedding and are still searching for the specifics. That is why on my website I have a recommended suppliers page. So without further a do, let’s get the blog rolling…

Wedding Cakes Are Just So Amazing….Bring On “The Gorge Bakehouse”

Let me start by confessing that I have a guilty pleasure and a rather sweet tooth, so who better to introduce than the wonderful work of Hannah Bailey at The Gorge Bakehouse. Honestly, if you are looking for a wedding cake, Hannah should be your go to. Just looking through her Instagram feed sends me wild! Anyway I digress… So similar to a blog I did with Dan Pitman - Wedding Videographer, I have asked Hannah a set of questions for you to get a flavour of herself and her work (excuse the pun)!

(1) Hi Hannah, thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. Firstly, if you can say who are you and what does your business offer? I’ve kind of given both away already!

Thanks James! Hi everyone, I'm Hannah (or Han as everyone knows me) and I am the very proud owner of The Gorge Bakehouse, creating beautiful wedding & celebration cakes and delicious sweet grazing tables for your special occasions!

(2) Thank you. I have to say your work is so good. How long have you been in the business industry?

So, I have been in business for just over 3 years now and absolutely love my job!

(3) I am sure the dreaded C word is going to come up here, but If you were in another industry before you started The Gorge Bakehouse, why did you switch to the wedding industry, or even the cake making industry?

Well, I trained as a chef originally but my career diverted a little into product development where I spent a fair few years developing recipes for products on the supermarket shelfs! For me, Covid was a real eye opener and the nudge I needed to follow my dreams and start my own business!

(4) I knew COVID would come up, it was the same for me! So, what do you love about the cake industry?

Creativity has always been such a focus in my life and the cake industry allows this to shine through in a big way!

(5) You can definitely see that in your work, your cakes are so unique! So, why do you love doing it?

It sounds so cheesy, but honestly from the initial consultation through to the set up on the wedding day, maybe seeing a post on the wedding couple's socials or a quick thank you message after the big day...the feeling you get from being a part of someone's special day isn't like anything else! I don't think anything will top the pride of my creation being the sweet centrepiece! (And don't get me started on a cake cutting picture...that gets me every time, just amazing!)

(6) What is your style/approach to the work you do?

I do absolutely love a more modern, minimalist approach in my styling of cake design. I'm always up for something unique, maybe a splash of colour, different edible mediums texture and I always love fresh flowers on a cake too!

(7) People will see a few examples of your work on this blog, but where can people find out more about your business?

So, you can find out lots more about me and my small business through Social media on Facebook & Instagram @thegorgebakeouse And I am currently working on a website, launching very soon! www.thegorgebakehouse.com

(8) Amazing! And lastly, if you had one meal for the rest of your life (3 meals a day), what would it be?

It may come as a surprise (as, understandably, I have such a sweet tooth generally) but it would have to be curry! I absolutely love Indian food and all of the delicious spices! I could honestly eat it for every meal. I'm still trying to persuade my husband on a curry for our Christmas Dinner instead of the traditional roast...although not much luck so far, he just can't give up the roasties!

Thank-you to our Amazing Wedding Cake Maker Hannah

Thank you again to Hannah for taking time away from baking such amazing cakes. I probably keep saying this, but her work is simply amazing and if you want something to brighten up your day, please check out her Instagram page. Hannah doesn’t just cater for weddings, and you can see her creativity really coming out whatever she is baking for. Keep up the great work Hannah and can’t wait to see you at a wedding soon!
