How my Wedding Photography Career Began?
With wedding season about to kick off here at Just James Weddings, it's probably time to tell you how I got started in wedding photography. I have written about this in a similar blog, but (1) there are a few things I missed out (2) in all honesty readers of my blog are not likely to scroll back that far. So here goes.
Before the dreaded C word (COVID), I had always done photography and videography as a hobby in the background and I had photographed a few friend's weddings. I would also photograph a wide range of genres, from astrophotography, to wildlife photography. But when we came out the other side of the pandemic, I had the opportunity to take up photography full time and I took it.
Since then I narrowed down my fields of expertise and now primarily photograph weddings, but also sports. I love working with people and this gets me up every day. Along with having a young family (2 lovely girls) and a supportive wife, I made it my mission to become a trusted wedding photographer in Somerset, the South West and the rest of the UK. I could not do this pursuing other genres of photography that were purely for my own joy. With wedding photography I get a huge sense of pride when I can help a couple enjoy their day more, by making them feel more relaxed. Most of the time when I have one of my two phone/video calls with couples, I refer to myself as a wedding planner as well as a wedding photographer with the amount of work I put in to trying to make a couples wedding day the best it can be.
Weddings and wedding bookings in particular have a snowball effect, and this year in particular I have seen an explosion of bookings. I am absolutely over the moon! I surpassed the target I gave myself in terms of bookings taken and hopefully now this will give myself an idea of what it is like to be a top wedding photographer and with lots of bookings. I pride myself in quality photos, but more importantly I wish to provide couples with the best experience. I am always striving to improve this area of my business as it grows and I cannot wait to photograph so many amazing people's weddings this year and beyond. If you make a booking with me, make sure to keep an eye on your post box for gifts throughout your journey from saying “YES”, to “I DO”.
I suppose that without that dreaded COVID, who knows what I would be doing now. However, I am actually quite glad for that time and for what I now get to do every day. Without the support from my family also, the opportunity to do something that deep down I always wanted to do full time would not have happened, so by chance two Worlds collided and here I am today!
